Who?
Rep. Robert Garcia (D-CA) — Ranking Member, House Oversight Committee; outgoing Ranking Member, Task Force on the Declassification of Federal Secrets
LISTEN: Laslo & Garcia
Ask a Pol asked:
Now that House Democrats chose you to be Ranking Member of the full House Oversight Committee, who’s gonna take over for you as Ranking Member of the Task Force on the Declassification of Federal Secrets?
Key Garcia:
“Not sure actually,” Rep. Robert Garcia exclusively told Ask a Pol. “We should know probably in the next week or two.”
But you can’t do both, right?
“No, yeah. I can’t do both, yeah,” Garcia said. “I won’t be the Ranking Member.”
Caught our ear:
We still haven’t had a public UAP hearing in this Congress, as Ranking Democrat on the full Oversight Committee, are you going to push Oversight Chair James Comer on that?
“I mean we should,” Garcia told us. “But it’s up to Republicans, not to us.”*
*If Democrats recapture the House in the 2026 midterms, Garcia moves from Ranking Member to Oversight Chair.
ICYMI — Garcia introduced the UAPDA in 2024

Below find a rough transcript of Ask a Pol’s exclusive interview with Rep. Robert Garcia (D-CA), slightly edited for clarity.
TRANSCRIPT: Rep. Robert Garcia (6-26-2025)
SCENE: Rep. Robert Garcia’s chatting with a couple fellow members of Congress as they make their way to the Capitol for a House vote. Ask a Pol’s Matt Laslo walks just a few steps ahead of them waiting for their convo to break.
When they pause their convo for a second Laslo jumps in…
Matt Laslo: “Hey, I just wanted to ask you real quick, any idea who’s gonna take over for you on Secrets?”
Robert Garcia: “Not sure actually. We should know probably in the next week or two.”
ML: “But you can’t do both, right?”
RG: “No, yeah. I can’t do both, yeah. I won’t be the Ranking Member.”
ML: “Yeah?”
RG: “We’re gonna find out, you know, who that person would be.”
ML: “As Ranking [Member on full Oversight Committee] — we still haven’t had a public UAP hearing, as Ranking Democrat, are you going to push Comer for that?”
RG: “I mean we should, but it’s up to Republicans, not to us.”
ML: “Yup, yup. Thank you sir.”

In addition to Rep. Garcia introducing the UAPDA in the House last year, he and Rep. Grothman also introduced the Safe Airspace for Americans Act, which unfortunately did not pass.

Great stuff! I really am interested in Garcia's perspective on this.
