TRANSCRIPT: Rep. Mike Johnson (7-2-2025)

SCENE: Ask a Pol’s Matt Laslo’s casually walking the marble halls of the Capitol looking for lawmakers ahead of a 9am House vote on President Donald Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill.”

Laslo’s passing by a photographer who jumps up and starts furiously clicking. Laslo turns and sees a large security detail engulfing the speaker as they enter the House Carriage Entrance — literally where horse and buggies used to drop lawmakers of old off — so Laslo greets the southern speaker.

Matt Laslo: “Morning, Mr. Speaker.”

Mike Johnson: “Hey, how are you doing?”

Bloomberg: “Do you have the votes…”

ML: “Hey, are you the one…”

Laslo signals to Bloomberg to get their question out.

ML: “Go ahead.”

Bloomberg: “…today to pass the Rule?”

MJ: “We’re working on all that right now.”

Politico: “Are you worried about flights — people getting to town?”

MJ: “I am worried about flights, yeah. We don’t know if we have a full House, so that’s what we’re working on.”

ML: “Mr. Speaker, did you prohibit the UAP Caucus from getting read in on SAPs?”

MJ: “I have no idea what you’re talking about.”

ML: “[Secrets Chair Anna Paulina] Luna and the Secret Task Force were blocked from Special Access Programs.”
