Rep. James Comer (R-KY) — Chair, House Oversight Committee

LISTEN: Laslo & Comer

Comer asks:

“Did they ever make their trip to Roswell?” House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer casually asked.

“I don’t think so,” Ask a Pol founder Matt Laslo replies.

Key Comer:

“I approved a trip for [Chair Anna Paulina Luna and Secrets Task Force members] to go to Roswell. I don’t know if they made it or not. They may have got interrupted with the shutdown,” Comer exclusively told Ask a Pol UAP.*

*Confirmed: Trip planned for coming months.

While Chair Comer approved the CODEL — or official Congressional Delegation trip — Rep. Eric Burlison tells Ask a Pol they’re still working out their western state itinerary (stay tuned: That full exclusive with Burlison — including his reaction to recent attacks on his staffer David Grusch — is dropping next week when Congress is out, again).

While they still don’t have their trip details ironed out, Burlison explains, that’s in part because they fear military contractors will move sensitive materials if alerted a CODEL is coming…

Kentucky Tangent: Fort Knox

“I got Fort Knox, but I can’t get down there. They won’t let me. Hell, you know, Trump never did get down there either,” Comer said. “[Kentucky Congressman] Brett Guthrie’s been in Fort Knox. Brett says there’s gold down there.”

He verified it?

“Yeah,” Comer lauged, “he verified it.”

TRANSCRIPT: Rep. James Comer (11-20-2025)

SCENE: After a night vote, Ask a Pol’s Matt Laslo catches Oversight Chair James Comer as he’s walking back to his office across the street from the US Capitol.

The two privately chat about the Secrets Task Force — an unstaffed, unfunded temporary panel housed within the broader House Oversight Committee — before Comer drops a bomb…

James Comer: “Did they ever make their trip to Roswell?”

Matt Laslo: “I don’t think so.”

JC: “I approved a trip for them to go to Roswell.”

ML: “Oh, really?”

JC: “I think I did.”

ML: ”Huh?”

JC: “I don’t know if they made it or not. They may have got interrupted with the shutdown.”

ML: ”I was gonna say, they better invite me…”

Comer laughs.

ML: “…if they’re going to Roswell.”

Laslo laughs.

JC: “I think they already went somewhere.”

ML: “I’ll have to…”

JC: “I think I signed off on it. Ask her [Secrets Chair Anna Paulina Luna]…”

Laslo laughs.

JC: “…but I signed off on something.”

ML: “Yeah?”

JC: “For some reason, I think they’ve already went or maybe it was through the shutdown messed it up.”

ML: “It’s probably classified, so they can’t really broadcast it.”

JC: “I don’t know that it was for that.”

Laslo laughs.

JC: “Well, maybe it was, I don’t know.”

ML: “Maybe…”

JC: “Yeah, because they wanted to go — yeah, it was classified. You’re right.”

Laslo laughs.

ML: “Oh yeah? Do you — why didn’t you go with?”

JC: “Ah, I just…”

ML: “Why don’t you want to see where the “gold” is? I guess you got Fort Knox.”*

Laslo laughs.

*Laslo used to cover Chair Comer for WEKU, southeastern Kentucky — ie, coal country — NPR.

JC: “I got Fort Knox, but I can’t get down there. They won’t let me. Hell, you know, Trump never did get down there either, but…”

ML: “To Fort Knox?”

JC: “Yeah. They…”

ML: “Do you feel there’s a loosening of state secrets?”

JC: “There’s a what?”

ML: “A loosening of state secrets?”

JC: “Oh.”

ML: “Like they promised all this transparency, but…”

JC: “You know, [Kentucky Congressman] Brett Guthrie’s been in Fort Knox.”

ML: “Really?”

JC: “Brett Guthrie went.”

ML: “I want to go.”

JC: “The last time he went down there — who was president when they went down there? Wasn’t Trump.”

ML: “You’re Chair of Oversight, you gotta ask to go to Fort Knox.”

JC: “Well, Brett represents Fort Knox.”

ML: “Yeah? But you’re Oversight chair.”

JC: “Yeah, but — uh, who all went down there? Maybe it was Trump. Did Trump?”

ML: “I don’t think so. Know he went near there.”

JC: “Oh, because Trump was — what was Trump saying about Fort Knox during the campaign? He was questioning whether they had any gold left down there.”

ML: “Yeah.”

JC: “But for some reason, didn’t he go — who was the president? Because Brett went, and the governor of Kentucky at the time went.”

ML: “Interesting.”

JC: “Brett says there’s gold down there, so…”

Laslo laughs.

ML: “He verified it?”

Comer laughs.

JC: “Yeah, he verified it.”

ML: “My dad would be happy with that. He’s investing in gold.”

JC: “Um, yeah, my brother started buying gold at $280. What’s it, $4,000 now?”
