Who?
Rep. Nick Begich (R-AK)
LISTEN: Laslo & Begich
Ask a Pol asks:
What’s your review of the new UFO documentary Age of Disclosure?
Key Begich:
“It’s very well done,” Rep. Nick Begich exclusively tells Ask a Pol. “What they did was they took years of testimony and condensed it down into a digestible format. I think they did a great job doing that, because you got a lot of people on the record talking about what they know or what they suspect or what they’ve been told about this issue, and one of those individuals speaking in the manner in which they have spoken raises an eyebrow…”
Caught our ear:
“There’s lots of secrets,” Begich tells us. “I’m convinced that there is far more to the story than we’ve been officially told.”

SCENE: Ahead of a House vote, Rep. Nick Begich is taking an underground tunnel to the US Capitol when Ask a Pol’s Matt Laslo snags him for this exclusive interview on the new Age of Disclosure documentary.
Matt Laslo: Is final NDAA bill text out yet?
Nick Begich: Not to my knowledge.
Laslo: Not to mine either.
Begich: I think it’s pretty buttoned up…
Someone sprints past Begich and Laslo.
Laslo: What does he know that I don’t? Maybe he’s got the NDAA.
Laslo laughs.
Begich: Yeah, I think it’s pretty baked, but, you know, until there’s final text with guidance.
Laslo: Yeah? I heard there was one provision that was still being debated at leadership level, but not on any issues I know anything about.
Begich: You talk to Eric [Burlison]?
Laslo: Yeah. Well, last time I talked to you all was right ahead of Thanksgiving, and he was saying, ‘there’s still a chance’ but that’s where I’m curious…”
Begich: Age of Disclosure is totally making rounds. I know several members have watched it over the break. I watched it.
Laslo: Oh, interesting. I’ve been meaning — like every lawmaker I’ve asked about it has been like, ‘I’m in it. I haven’t seen it’ except for Burchett and he’s like, ‘I saw it twice.’
Begich: I watched it.
Laslo: What’s your review?
Begich: Well, I think it’s very well done. And I think what the mov… — I want to call it a documentary, really; it’s less of a movie…
Laslo: Yeah.
Begich: What they did was they took years of testimony and condensed it down into a digestible format. I think they did a great job doing that, because you got a lot of people on the record talking about what they know or what they suspect or what they’ve been told about this issue.
Laslo: Yeah.
Begich: And one of those individuals speaking in the manner in which they have spoken raises an eyebrow, but when you see it all together condensed into, you know, a roughly two hour documentary, I think for the uninitiated public folks who may be curious of the issue but they haven’t had the time or spent the time to drill down, that’s when they really get their eyes opened. Because they see that people that they respect on one side of the aisle or the other are taking this issue pretty seriously. And, um, there’s something there.
Laslo: Who’s that person — is that Mr. Rubio?
Begich: I think Rubio is — he was incredible. You know, it’s fascinating to hear what he said. And he’s been a part of this conversation for many years.
Laslo: From the inside on Intel [Committee], but now he’s Secretary of State.
Laslo shrugs.
Begich: That’s right. He was Gang of Eight, so clearly he’s had access to information most members don’t have.
Laslo: Is there anything in there that energizes you all? Like, does it energize you to keep going even though…?
Begich: Oh, sure. You know, I think when you see that there’s a broad interest, whether it’s this topic or any other. In the building and on Capitol Hill, I think people say, look, this has the interest of my colleagues, I’m interested in it, let’s drill down, let’s learn more.
Laslo: How do you guys get answers?
Begich: Well, I think we’re going to have to continue to have the hearings that we’re having, continue to have the briefings that we’ve been having. And I think many in the intelligence community have been opening that up at greater levels, at least in my understanding, than they have done in the past. And that’s going to be part of popping the lock on this in understanding exactly what’s going on.
Laslo: Are you convinced of anything, even if it’s convinced that there’s secrets that they have that…?
Begich: Well, there’s lots of secrets.
Laslo: Yeah?
Begich: I’m convinced that there is far more to the story than we’ve been officially told.
Laslo: Yeah?
Begich: Yeah.
Laslo: Interesting. Appreciate it. I will keep pulling that thread.
Begich: Sounds good.
Laslo: Good to see you, sir.
Begich: Good to see you too.
