Who?
Rep. Adam Smith (D-WA) — Ranking Member, Armed Services Committee (HASC)
LISTEN: Laslo & Smith
What?
We conducted this interview on Friday, Dec. 6th. The following week, the National Defense Authorization Act — or NDAA — sailed out of the House of Representatives before passing the US Senate this week. It’s now awaiting President Joe Biden’s signature — or (highly unlikely) veto.
Ask a Pol asks:
Have you heard what's up with Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer's UAPDA — Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena Disclosure Act — with Sen. Mike Rounds (R-SD)?
Key Smith:
“Sorry, what are we talking about? What’s that?” Rep. Adam Smith pressed Ask a Pol. “I don't know what that means.”
‘UAP’ is the new ‘UFO.’
“Okay,” Smith said. “I have a vague memory of it, but I don't know the specifics.”
ICYMI — eternal saga of Schumer’s UAPDA continues…
Caught our ear:
“It's tradition,” Smith told us at the start of the month. “We fly off to Reagan [National Airport], and we argue and hassle over the final details and then come back on Monday, release the bill and find a way to pass it.”
Below find a rough transcript of Ask a Pol’s exclusive interview with Rep. Adam Smith (D-WA), slightly edited for clarity.
